The History of A.R.T
A.R.T: ATV Racing Technology
A.R.T is a company that specializes mainly in parts and accessories for quads. These products are largely universal, meaning they are compatible with a wide range of different quad models, so your choice is not limited by compatibility issues.
The first vehicle similar to modern quads was designed by the motorcycle manufacturer Enfield Cycle Company Limited in the late 19th century. In the 1960s, the term ATV was coined in the United States, although it referred to amphibious six-wheeled off-road vehicles, like the American Jiger or the Spanish Artés Gato Montés, rather than the straddle-mounted vehicles we know today. With the introduction of straddle-mounted ATVs, the term "amphibious ATV" was introduced to define the original amphibious ATV category.
Thus, in 1970, motorized tricycles, popularly known as trikes, were born. These types of vehicles became so popular that in a few years they had spread massively in the United States. After the disappearance of three-wheeled vehicles, ATVs/quads emerged, primarily in agricultural areas. These vehicles maintained the philosophy of motorcycles (lightweight and maneuverable) while being suitable for any terrain and under the harshest weather conditions.
Initially, ATVs were used for daily work assistance, but a few years later, they also became vehicles for leisure and competition. Their appearance was initially linked to the U.S. and Japanese markets. By 2010, there were around 10.6 million vehicles in circulation in the United States. In Spain, the market multiplied its sales in the late 1990s and early 2000s, reaching 44,348 units sold in 2005, most of them intended for leisure and sports use. It was then that the distinction between agricultural and recreational use (ATV) and competition use (quad) began to be made.
After 2005, sales began to decline in Spain, partly due to the tax increases related to these vehicles' environmental impact. They share characteristics with motorcycles, such as lightness, agility, and riding position, but their driving style is more similar to that of a car. Handling is easy except for motorcycle users. This peculiarity arises because motorcycle riders are usually accustomed to shifting their body weight to take a curve, while for handling an ATV/quad, it's necessary to make handlebar movements, as simply leaning will not get the vehicle into the curve the way you want.
The riding position is similar to that of a motorcycle. It is common to use a thumb throttle on the handlebar instead of a twist grip.
